Journey of The Firefly From Paper To 3D To 3D Print

  • After discovering the incredible resolution of the Formlabs SLA printers, which we have at the Rochester Institute of Technology, I decided to print one of the characters that I created 2 years ago for my film Dark Mechanism. Printing resolution is 25 microns, and for such a small object (shorter than 8 cm) the printing came out pretty amazing, after some "plastic surgeries" :D

Special thanks to the 3D printing crew!

  • Here are the pieces that I recovered and glued back. Some of them got detached due to the very small scale of the print, other pieces did not print, especially the limbs - To fix that, I used the bracing support mesh that came out with the object from printing, and it worked out perfectly on both the limbs and frontal antennas :)
